Commercial Paracord

What is Paracord?

Paracord, also known as parachute cord, is a strong, lightweight rope made of nylon. There are two main types of paracord: mil-spec and commercial paracord. Both types have the same look and breaking strength, however, the mil spec needs to meet all military standards..

550 vs 650 Commercial Paracord

The main differences between 550 and 650 paracord are diameter and breaking strength. 550 paracord is a 32 carrier braided nylon with a 7-strand nylon core and breaks strength of 550 pounds. 650 paracord is a 32 carrier braided nylon with a 4-strand textured nylon core and break strength of 300-350 pounds.

However, keep in mind the 550 paracord is not made from the same quality yarns or tested like the Mil-Spec rope.
