Commercial 550 & 650 Paracord – Phoenix Rope & Cordage

Commercial 550 & 650 Paracord

What is Paracord?

Paracord, also known as parachute cord, is a strong, lightweight rope made of nylon. There are two main types of paracord: mil-spec and commercial paracord. Both types have the same look and breaking strength, however, the mil spec needs to meet all military standards.

550 & 650 Paracord

550 vs 650 Commercial Paracord

The main differences between 550 and 650 paracord are diameter and breaking strength. 550 paracord is a 32 carrier braided nylon with a 7-strand nylon core and breaks strength of 550 pounds. 650 paracord is a 32 carrier braided nylon with a 4-strand textured nylon core and break strength of 300-350 pounds.

However, keep in mind the 550 paracord is not made from the same quality yarns or tested like the Mil-Spec rope.
